Your Oral, Overall Health Are Connected
Here’s some news that won’t surprise you: Your mouth is part of your body.
Not exactly shocking information, but recognizing that fact can make a difference in the kind of dental care you receive.
It’s been well-documented that your oral health affects your overall health. This understanding is integral to our holistic approach to dentistry at Advanced Dental Concepts in Roseville, CA.
Today, we want to discuss how this perspective can change the kind of oral care you receive. To experience the difference firsthand, call 916-945-9985 to schedule an appointment with us soon.
Total Health is the Goal
You may recall a song from your childhood about your shin bone being connected to your knee bone being connected to your thigh bone, and so on. That’s equally true for muscles, ligaments, and the rest of the parts of our bodies.
It’s why your back can hurt if you start walking funny to compensate for a bad ankle. Likewise, have oral health problems (like gum disease) can increase your risk of other health issues, including cardiovascular disease and heart attacks.
Don’t misunderstand, you can have a perfectly healthy mouth and still develop those problems. At the same time, having an unhealthy mouth can increase your likelihood of developing other health complications.
You can help yourself by having a consistent oral health routine. This should include brushing twice per day (two minutes each time), flossing or using an interdental cleaner every day, and making professional dental cleanings and exams part of your routine.
What You Can Expect
When you come to our office, we want you to understand that we are concerned about your total well-being. That’s why you can expect these things from us:
- Digital X-rays — This alone reduces your radiation exposure greatly compared to old film X-rays. We also take X-ray less frequently than many other practices.
- Metal-free materials — We offer metal free dental crowns and fillings, which is better both aesthetically and for patients who may have metal allergies.
- Latex-free materials — Again, this is better for patients who may have a latex allergy.
In a more general sense, we do our best to provide treatments don’t adversely affect your body in other ways. We also offer fluoride-free options if that is important to you.
And we will work with you to correct previous dental work that may be causing you pain or discomfort.
More than Just General Care
In addition to standard dental treatments, we also offer help for patients with TMJ disorders and obstructive sleep apnea.
TMJ can lead to teeth grinding as well as headaches, earaches, and pain you jaw, face, neck, upper back, or shoulders. Treating it can result in damage to your smile and stop the painful consequences on other parts of your body. Ask about our K7 System.
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that is known to raise your risk of high blood pressure, heart attacks, and other problems. With a special oral appliance, you can get the deep sleep you need … and snore less so your loved ones can sleep better, too.
How You Feel Matters
We don’t just mean your oral health either. Your mental and emotional health is important to our team at Advanced Dental Concepts, too. If you are uncomfortable for any reason, please let us know so we can make adjustments to help you feel relaxed during your visits with us.
